Centre of Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) databases

The NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) at the University of York, produces and disseminates reviews on effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of health–care interventions and technologies from high-quality health research, for decision-makers and health consumers.  Also includes: DARE (available on the Cochrane Library): systematic reviews, summaries of author’s conclusions and comments on practice implications and NEED: a database of economic evaluations.

Current Controlled Trials

This database contains over 10,000 records of randomised controlled trials provided from 20 different registers around the world and is one of the largest databases of ongoing randomised controlled trials on the Internet: Current Controlled Trials.

 

Effective Health Care Bulletin

Each issue addresses effectiveness of interventions on a major health care topic: CRD Publications.

 

Health Technology Assessment Programme

A national programme of research established and funded by the Department of Health’s Research and Development Department to produce high quality research information on the costs, effectiveness and broader impact of health technologies: HTA.

 

Joanna Briggs

An Australian web-site which publishes systematic reviews on a variety of nursing topics: The Joanna Briggs Institute.

 

National Clearinghouse of Guidelines

A resource for evidence-based guidelines: NGC.

 

National Electronic Library for Health

A national Web based information library resource for the NHS and the UK public.  It is currently being piloted and has access to library resources including:

A database of full versions of clinical guidelines: Guidelines Database.

National Institute of Clinical Excellence

Information on NICE-commissioned clinical practice guidelines that are currently being developed in the UK.

PubMed is a free version of MEDLINE available over the Web.  You can find numerous articles relating to medicine, nursing, midwifery, allied health, health management, health research via this site.
